Summary
A foreign spouse may apply to live with their husband or wife in Aruba through family reunification when the resident spouse has a qualifying status. A spouse admitted by law, a permanent resident and a temporary resident can fall under different rules. The listed ordinary temporary-resident category requires the sponsor to have at least three years of lawful residence.
The application therefore starts with the marriage record and evidence of the sponsor's exact status and residence history. Other relatives and informal or registered partnerships need a separate assessment. Marriage does not itself issue a residence permit, and approval should not be assumed to include permission to work.
Eligibility
DIMAS, Aruba’s immigration authority, lists family reunification with people admitted by law, permanent residents, and some temporary residents. For the stated temporary-resident situation, the sponsor must have lived legally in Aruba for at least three years. Applicants should document the marriage and the sponsor’s status. Other relatives, registered or informal partnerships, and special migrant categories require their own assessment.
-
Identify the sponsor's exact permission Review permanent, admitted-by-law, or qualifying temporary status.
-
Check the required residence history For the relevant temporary-resident case, document the specified prior period.
-
Prepare the spouse application Provide marriage and sponsor records and confirm the current checklist and work-rights position.
Other relatives and partnership types need their own assessment. Marriage alone does not settle the sponsor's eligibility.
What This Route Allows
If approved, the applicant receives temporary permission to live with the sponsor in Aruba. The government page says several family permits do not automatically allow paid work; confirm the grant and current work policy.
What This Route Is Not
Marriage or the sponsor’s residence does not itself give the applicant a permit or Dutch citizenship. A sponsor with less than three years on the ordinary temporary-resident option is not treated as meeting that requirement.
Next Steps
- Identify the sponsor’s exact Aruba status and residence history.
- Gather marriage and sponsor-permission records.
- Obtain the current DIMAS family checklist and confirm work rights before applying.
