Pathway overview

At a glance

France's Talent – person of national or international renown permit may fit someone with an established national or international reputation. It can also cover someone able to make a significant, lasting contribution to France's economy, regional development, or international influence. You need strong evidence of your achievements or proposed contribution.

Fields
Science, literature, art, intellectual work, education, or sport
Resources
Currently at least €22,404.20 per year
Limits
Professional experience or success alone is not enough without the qualifying French project and recognized profile.

Summary

This route is for exceptional professional reputation or a significant France-facing contribution in fields such as science, literature, art, education, sport, or intellectual work. Most strong professionals will fit a more ordinary work, business, or research route instead.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

The applicant must show all of the following:

Authorities assess quality, level, and relevance, not simply volume. A long CV, social-media following, or many ordinary professional references may not establish national or international renown. For the contribution branch, broad claims that France will benefit are weaker than funded commitments, recognized partners, measurable outcomes, and a durable plan.

More about this route

The person must come to France for professional activity in a scientific, literary, artistic, intellectual, educational, or sporting field. The activity may be salaried, self-employed, or both.

Current Service-Public guidance, verified on 1 June 2026, also requires resources at least equal to the full-time gross annual minimum wage, currently €22,404.20. The figure can change.

Connect the exceptional record to a defined French project
  1. Check which special rule applies Document established renown or the separate significant-and-sustainable-contribution ground.
  2. Define the covered professional activity Identify the field, role, partners, location, duration, and funding in France.
  3. Support the case with independent evidence Explain how the applicant's record and the proposed project satisfy the chosen basis.

Renown and significant contribution are alternative grounds. The professional project must still fit a covered field and the remaining requirements.

What This Route Allows

The Talent card permits residence and salaried and/or self-employed professional activity supporting the approved renown or contribution project. For work as an employee within the category, the employer does not need an ordinary work authorization.

For a stay under one year, France may issue a long-stay visa that itself serves as the Talent residence permission. For a planned stay of at least one year, the person normally enters with the appropriate long-stay visa and applies online for the multi-year card. A Talent card can cover the documented activity within the general four-year maximum.

An eligible spouse and minor children can use the simplified Talent-family process rather than ordinary family reunification. The spouse's Talent-family status authorizes work.

Qualifying residence may later contribute to a separate long-term-residence application, subject to all of that route's requirements.

What This Route Is Not

This route is not:

Most applicants with a normal job, research appointment, artistic project, or business plan will fit a more specific employee, researcher, artist, project-leader, or entrepreneur route.

Next Steps

  1. Decide whether the evidence supports established renown or the separate significant-and-sustainable-contribution branch.
  2. Confirm that the French professional activity falls in one of the listed fields.
  3. Write a concise project statement covering what will happen in France, with whom, where, for how long, how it is funded, and why the applicant's record makes the project exceptional.
  4. Organize the strongest independent evidence by importance. Explain unfamiliar awards, institutions, rankings, impact figures, or media sources rather than submitting an unexplained archive.
  5. Document at least the live annual resource floor and distinguish guaranteed resources from projections.
  6. Compare the more specific Talent categories before filing; a precise route is usually easier to evidence than this exceptional one.
  7. Use the France-Visas assistant from abroad or ANEF for an eligible in-country application and follow the official checklist.
  8. Keep contracts, project outcomes, recognition, income, tax, and address records for renewal.
