Funds required
At least ALL 408,000, with enough to support you and anyone joining you
Home and insurance
An address in Albania and health insurance for at least one year

Summary

Albania’s digital mobile-worker permit lets qualifying remote workers live there, usually for up to one year at first. You need a contract for remote work, at least ALL 408,000 available to help cover your stay, enough money for anyone you support, a place to live, and health insurance. Ask an Albanian legal expert to review the visa requirements and supporting evidence for your circumstances before applying.

Legal experts advise that, in practice, nationals of some countries face additional visa scrutiny. See the practical nationality guidance and seek advice on your circumstances before committing to a move.

From overseas remote work to an Albanian residence card
  1. Remote-work evidence Document the overseas employer or clients, funds, housing and health insurance.
  2. Visa and online application Confirm the entry rules for your nationality and apply through e-Albania.
  3. Complete the residence steps If approved Provide the required originals and finish address registration and the residence-card process.

The permission covers the remote work in the application. Local employment may need another status, and meeting the listed conditions does not guarantee approval.

Eligibility

This route may suit you if you have:

You also need a valid passport and must meet Albania's entry and visa rules. You can apply online from your country of residence or from Albania while you are there legally.

Some parts of the application let you confirm details about your work, money, and housing before sending the original documents. You must supply those originals within 30 days after approval. Documents from abroad generally need to have been issued within the previous six months, translated into Albanian, and officially certified.

What This Route Allows

The permit lets you live in Albania and carry out the remote work covered by your application. You can apply to renew it if your work and other circumstances still meet the requirements.

The usual first permit lasts up to one year. General rules can allow a five-year first permit for U.S. and Kosovo citizens, but confirm how those rules apply to this route before planning around a longer stay. EU citizens should check Albania's separate residence-registration process.

Time spent living legally in Albania may count toward permanent residence. That normally requires five qualifying years, limits on time spent abroad, and other requirements, followed by a separate application.

What This Route Is Not

Meeting the money and work requirements does not make approval certain. Get an individual assessment before committing to a move. If you own or plan to buy a home, you can also compare the separate property-owner residence route with a legal expert; it has its own requirements and does not guarantee approval.

This permit covers remote work for overseas employers or clients. Taking a local job or changing your work may require different permission. Savings alone do not replace the need for a work contract.

It does not automatically give you permanent residence or citizenship. You should also check how living and working in Albania would affect your taxes and any obligations your employer may have.

Next Steps

  1. Speak with an Albanian legal expert about the visa process, supporting evidence, and whether this route fits your circumstances.
  2. Gather your work contract and proof of funds, and arrange housing and health insurance.
  3. Confirm the visa and application steps for your nationality. Prepare your criminal-record certificates and any required translations and certification.
  4. Apply through e-Albania and respond to requests for documents or payment.
  5. If approved, send the original supporting documents within 30 days and complete the address-registration and residence-card steps. Check your expiry date and plan any renewal ahead of time.
