Summary
Belize’s Work Where You Vacation program allows a temporary stay while doing remote work for an overseas employer or business, for qualifying citizens or permanent residents of the EU, UK, U.S., or Canada. The work must remain with an employer or business outside Belize, and the applicant must document at least USD $75,000 in annual income alone or USD $100,000 with dependents.
The file includes a notarized banking reference and statement, recent police records, certified passport pages, and travel insurance with at least USD $50,000 in health coverage. Neither the principal applicant nor accompanying dependents receive permission for local employment through this program.
-
Confirm qualifying citizenship or permanent residence Check the eligible country group and each dependent’s relationship.
-
Document foreign work, income, and insurance Use the income level that applies to the applicant’s family composition.
-

The Long Stay Visitor Permit cannot be extended and does not allow local employment for the holder or dependents.
Eligibility
The main applicant needs:
- qualifying citizenship or permanent residence in one of the countries above;
- employment or self-employment outside Belize;
- evidence of the required annual income;
- a notarized bank reference and account statement;
- a police record from the country of residence, issued within six months of applying;
- certified passport identity pages for the applicant and each dependent, plus valid visas where required; and
- qualifying travel insurance.
An employee must provide a job letter issued within 30 days of applying. A self-employed applicant needs business-registration evidence and an annual tax return. A bank balance alone does not replace the annual-income requirement.
Eligible dependents include a spouse, an unmarried child or stepchild under 18, an unmarried legally adopted child under 18, or another person recognized as a dependent by court order. Include the civil or court records proving each relationship. The USD $100,000 threshold applies whenever any dependent is included.
The Tourism Board currently quotes BZD 500 per adult and BZD 200 per child under 18. Confirm the fee and currency with Immigration before paying.
What This Route Allows
You and approved dependents may remain in Belize for the period shown on the permit, up to six months in a calendar year, while your work remains outside Belize. The Tourism Board also says participating children under 18 may attend school without a separate student permit.
What This Route Is Not
This permit does not allow you or your dependents to take employment in Belize. Ask Immigration about the appropriate authorization before accepting a local job or starting a business serving Belize residents.
It is temporary visitor status, separate from permanent residence, QRP retirement status, or citizenship. Ordinary permanent residence requires a separate qualifying year of lawful residence with no more than 14 total days abroad. Citizenship through residence later requires five years holding permanent residence.
There is no extension right or guaranteed back-to-back permit. The permit also does not determine your tax obligations.
Next Steps
- Confirm your qualifying citizenship or permanent residence and each dependent's relationship.
- Gather employment or business records, income evidence, the notarized bank reference, passport copies, police record, and insurance.
- Contact Immigration using the details on the official Tourism Board page to confirm the current application channel, documents, fee, and currency.
- Wait for approval and match your travel plans to the permit's dates and six-month calendar-year limit.
